Betty Agbake was found dead in a room in Ladbroke Grove, Notting Hill following a suspected illegal operation.

An open verdict was returned at her inquest after it was heard that there was not sufficient evidence to show how she came by her death.

The pathologist that carried out her post mortem said that she died from a soap and air embolism, but that he could not say whether she herself caused it or someone else.

Betty Agbake was Nigerian and had been a trainee nurse at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey.

A student that lived in Coalecroft Road in Putney said that he had been with Betty Agbakeon 28 October 1958 and that they had gone to his friend's house in Ladbroke Grove. He said, 'She seemed depressed'.

A woman that lived in Dawson Place, Kensington, said that she saw Betty Agbake at the Nottinghill House and said, 'She said she was feeling ill. She did not answer when I asked her what was wrong with her'.

Her fiance who lived in Coalecroft Road, Putney said that he had known that Betty Agbake had been pregnant and said that it was undesirable because he had not yet passed his exams.
